ALLISON BOHORFOUSH
JEWELRY ARTIST
|
 |
For 20 years, Allison has been
making jewelry of one kind or another. Beginning with seed
beads, copper wire, sterling wire and now fine silver and copper
sheet. She uses techniques such as fold forming, repoussé
and fine chisel work to enhance the metal. All pieces are one of
a kind and have been described by art critics as whimsical. They
are surely speaking of the dragonflies, female figures and
faces. |
|
| While apprenticing in Robert
Taylor's coppersmith shop she decided to use his copper scraps
to create jewelry. By using these cut away pieces she is
inspired by the odd shapes and happy to recycle scrap into art.
Brainstorming with other metalsmiths
has broadened her skill base and allowed her to incorporate
large metal techniques into jewelry. |

Unusual colors are applied by the
use of patinas or specialized torch techniques. The red range of
colors has become a customer favorite. Renaissance wax, which is
used by museum conservators, is used to stabilize all colors. No
chemicals should be used to clean pieces. |
|
| Allison has recently branched out
into intricately chiseled wall plaques, jewelry boxes, jewelry
hangers, bookmarks, fan pulls and plant hangers. Art Nouveau
themes and faces of all kinds adorn these new pieces. |
